Application & Purpose
The ocean absorbs 30% of global CO₂ -- a vital process invisible to most. This infographic makes the carbon cycle tangible through an emotionally resonant, scientifically accurate visual narrative. By framing the ocean as Earth's 'living carbon memory bank,' I aim to inspire climate awareness through beauty and hope, not fear.

DeepSeek for brainstorming and prompt refinement. Notebook LM, grounded with uploaded sources (Wikipedia, IPCC, scientific articles), generated the infographic. I guided layout, verified every element, and made manual design edits for clarity and flow.
Process & Iterations
I started with DeepSeek to brainstorm visual metaphors for the ocean carbon cycle. Once I had a clear concept, I moved to Notebook LM, uploading Wikipedia articles and scientific papers to ground the AI in real science. The first few generations were visually stunning but lacked structure—information felt scattered. I refined my prompts to emphasize hierarchy, flow, and readability. I also manually adjusted layout elements and verified every statistic against my sources. The final version took about five rounds of iteration, each one getting closer to a clear, compelling narrative. The biggest lesson: AI gives you pieces, but you still have to assemble them into a story.
A Researcher's Perspective
As a high school student, what surprised me was how accessible AI made visual communication and story-telling. I used Notebook LM with my own sources, so the AI never made up facts. However, it did have its limitations. It generated nice visuals, but organizing them into a logical, clear infographic took a lot of human input. The AI is powerful, but it doesn't think like a communicator. That part still has to come from the person using it. A note to other researchers: you should not worry about AI making things up if you feed it good sources. But don't expect it to think like a communicator. The science communication part still needs a human.
